Living in the Hazard ZonesHow Downeast LNG and Quoddy Bay LNG (and latecomer Calais LNG) would violate the LNG industry's own standards by subjecting local populations in Maine, Sipayik, and New Brunswick to hazards from potential LNG releasesRead about the Hazard Zones The Society of International Gas Terminal and Tanker Operators (SIGTTO) is the de facto world authority on LNG safe practices. Their publication, "Site Selection and Design for LNG Ports and Jetties," warns against siting LNG terminals where LNG vapors from a release or spill could affect civilian populations. The proposed local LNG projects violate that standard along with dozens of others. |

US Rep. Tom Allen won't answer our questions regarding his stand for or against the proposed LNG projects in Passamaquoddy Bay because we "aren't his constituency," yet he wants us to vote him into the US Senate. Isn't that like buying a pig in a polk?
We take particular offense at Allen continuing to send us his self-promotion junk email ("spam"), even after we requested he stop and even after we continue to bounce his email!
After we first requested that Allen stop spamming us, he sent us a letter via post, stating that it's too bad we aren't interested in issues he's interested in and then he continued to spam us.

Aubrey K. McClendon, Chesapeake Energy Corporation chairman and chief executive
“It’s almost divine intervention. Right at the time oil prices are skyrocketing, we’re struggling with the economy, we’re concerned about global warming, and national security threats remain intense, we wake up and we’ve got this abundance of natural gas around us.”
"Drilling boom revives hopes for natural gas" The New York Times, 2008 Aug 24
Keith Trent, Duke Energy's chief strategy, policy, and regulatory officer
"Relying more on LNG forces the U.S. to compete with Europe, Australia and Asia for this valuable commodity. If this isn't troubling enough, consider that Russia, Iran and Qatar have over half the world's gas reserves."
"Consumers are already hooked on gasoline. They shouldn't face addiction to another fuel [LNG] because of policies that don't balance our energy, economic and environmental needs."
"U.S. must avoid addiction to imported natural gas" The Charlotte Observer, 2008 Jul 11
Webmaster's Comments: Duke Energy is majority owner (over 77%) of the Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline that delivers natural gas to US customers in New England, and that would carry the resulting natural gas from proposed Downeast LNG, Calais LNG Project Co., and Quoddy Bay LNG, if those projects could actually succeed.
